People sometimes believe that counselling is simply a conversation or that a counsellor will tell them what to do. In reality, counselling offers something much deeper.
A counsellor is trained to listen carefully, noticing not only what you say but also the feelings and meaning behind your words. They are not there to judge you, criticise your decisions or take control of your life. Instead, they provide a supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences at a pace that feels right for you.
You do not need to have everything worked out before attending counselling. You may not even know where to begin. Sometimes the first step is simply saying, “I am struggling,” and allowing the conversation to develop from there.
